Geared toward a younger audience certainly so when they say it's a great family movie, they mean it's appropriate for kids and adults can spend the time catching up on extra work, folding laundry, cooking, reading e-mail...... It has your basic aliens are here and the government wants them plot and there are some very cool effects. One of the coolest moments in the whole movie is already shown in the trailer aka boy stops vehicle with his body. That did make me stop and go "whoa." Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock stars as Jack Burno, ex-con/taxi driver who is aiding AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig, alien siblings get back to their spaceship so they can go home. AnnaSophia Robb does a great job emoting with her giant eyes that pulled so much focus for her in Bridge to Terabithia. Alexander Ludwig is more of a newcomer to big movies and his inexperience does shine through a bit when he has more lines instead of just reacting to his sister. The Rock continues to show us his charismatic nature, a sense of humor and timing, and mainly an ability to beat people up when the situation calls for it. Also featured in the movie is Carla Gugino as Dr. Friedman, an astro physicist who helps the group in the final leg of their journey. I very much enjoyed her work in Sin City and she was one of the characters I liked most in Watchmen, both very much ensemble movies in which she shown brightly. In this movie, she is mostly there for an adult female counterpart to balance out the cast but there is no denying her enthusiasm. She dives in to this role just as hard as she has committed to roles in the past and doesn't let the type of movie dictate her level of performance. I appreciate that and give her mad props for the effort. There are a handful of plot holes, but nothing a kid would ever notice so I think the movie did its job. It's great for one viewing, particularly if you are babysitting and need some entertainment for to distract little people running around your place. Just average. I guess I knew I was always going to be disappointed regardless because I was a fan of the original 1975 movie that my parents showed me. It was the same when Charlie and the Chocolate Factory came out. Yeah, it's a remake of the original instead of Race's completely different story version of the idea of Escape to Witch Mountain, but I'll always have a fondness for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory from 1971. Way before I was born and yeah, I fast forward the Cheer up Charlie song sometimes because I like finding the tickets and touring the factory but the sheer emotion from Gene Wilder in the final scenes is a lesson in monologue right before your eyes. It's beautiful and I find notice new things about his performance every time I watch.Read full review
If you like Sci-Fi adventures films, you will probably enjoy this one. It has plenty of special effects and chase scenes. The plot also carries an underlying sarcastic criticism of Trekkies and Sci-Fi convention fanatics. Unfortunatelly, for a DISNEY DVD, this DVD version is poor in Bonus features. It does not contain any special features: No deleted scenes, no "Making of" feature and no additional featurettes. All it contains is a "looong" Disney Blue Ray commercial that does not address the featured film at all. Still, as far as an action film go, if you can buy it at a discount price, it is worth watching.
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson (Get Smart & The Game Plan) stars in this Disney movie about a taxi driver who unwillingly picks up two space travelers played by AnnaSophia Robb (Bridge to Terabithia) and Alexander Ludwig (The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising). Robb and Alex have come to earth to retrieve an experiment their father was working on to help save their home planet. When the government of the US detects the Aliens they use all of their resources to track them down to discover the secret of their origin and their unearthly powers. All the time the trio is also being pursued by a warrior from their home planet who was sent to insure their failure. This movie is a typical Disney film in that it has a lot of special effects but a great story line. The actors all play their roles well and the scenes all connect to make a very entertaining movie. Rated 5 of 5 for good acting and a very good overall movie. This movie is highly recommended and it would be good for the entire family to sit and watch together.Read full review
This movie is a lot better than the others. It has a lot of action and is clean. So it's safe to let the kids watch and it has enough action to keep a teenager/adult entertained at the same time. Dwayne Johnson (the Rock) does an excellent job acting. I would definatly recommend that you watch this movie. You will probably really like this movie, no matter how old you are. You probably won't regret buying this movie. Summary: Fasten your seatbelts for the thrill ride of your life in Disney's fun family action-adventure "Race To Witch Mountain", starring Dwayne Johnson. Jack Bruno (Johnson), a Las Vegas cabdriver struggling to stay on the right path, gets an out-of-this-world incentive when two aliens, disguised as teenagers, suddenly appear in his taxi. In a race against government agents, an alien hunter and time itself, Jack must help the children recover their lost spaceship so they can return home and save their planet and ours. Breathtaking chases, close calls and special effects make this an action-adventure the whole family will enjoy.Read full review
I remember seeing Witch Mountain as a kid (50+ years ago) Well, mqybe not that long ago, but before any of the stuff in this film even existed. That said, I don't know if it was a remake or updated or whatever. In any case, a good watch that I intend to see again. (and again, and .....) I would like to see the older version, why I ordered this one. But, as a stand alone, this one was very good, too. Now I want both of them......
