    The Ultimate Cranker (based on a Milwaukee right-angle electric drill).

    This excellent device effectively instantly converts every single winch on board to electric power. It's expensive, but nevertheless cheaper than changing even a single manual deck winch to electric. It's not quite as powerful as a really enthusiastic human, but it is so very much smoother and quicker for lighter loads, such as halyards etc. It is truly superb when working with self-tailing winches, but when used with NON-self-tailers it could be potentially dangerous if you sail singlehanded as I do, because obviously you have to "tail" the rope yourself with the other hand at the same time. Not a problem with proper care and attention though. I'm getting older and less strong, but this machine has already enabled me to return to sailing the way I used to several years ago.
