The little slide switch can raise/lower the volume. You set your volume to the maximum loudness you want with your CD player. The slide switch on the headset can now lower the volume to zero and raise it, but ONLY to the maximum volume you previously selected with your CD volume control. I have no idea what the little button function is supposed to do .Highly recommend this earbud. Perfect transaction.
