    Curt Rocks

This is my second Curt trailer hitch other than opening the frame holes, to pass the carriage bolt and other Hardware through, it is a relatively easy installation. It's high quality and its fit is almost perfect. If you don't have air then you better get a breaker bar was an extension torque the bolts. Oh by the way if you have rubber Muffler hangers than spraying with a little WD-40 or some light lubricant that'll help slide them off so that you can remove the muffler and be able to access the frame were one side of the trailer hitch goes.

Install has fairly easy. If I had to do it again I would just remove the muffler in stead of lowering the exhaust. I struggled with the hole enlarging as my drill bit wouldn't slot the hole and my die grinder bit went missing. I was able to use a jigsaw to make a rectangle large enough for the washer to fit. After that i cleaned and painted the frame rail. Fit and finish looks great!

  • Solid construction and delivered promptly

This is a very well built unit that precisely fits the Forester. It is definitely a two-person installation job, given that it weighs 35 lbs and needs to be lifted underneath the vehicle while attaching 6 nuts. Since most people don't have die grinders, you can use a dremel tool with a small grinding wheel to enlarge the two center holes. Wear ear protection. Initially it was not easy to remove the rubber pieces that hold the muffler in place - but if you spray them with WD-40 or silicon they will come off rather easily. I also unbolted the muffler to get it completely out of the way in order to use the dremel tool - worked well. The instructions did not say what to do with the muffler heat shield. I ended up cutting it off to not interfere with the hitch, and reinstalled it. The ...

  • Install went well. Rugged and overbuilt for this car.

You don't need a class III for a Forester unless you are carrying a bike rack. If you do tongue weight is an issue and you want a class III for the high vertical forces and for the reduced wiggle of a 2" receiver. Wiring is a non-issue for this application. Just get one, no downsides exist.

  • A Little Loose

The receiver arrived very quickly! The installation on a Subaru Forester definitely takes longer than what the advertising and instructions state, when it's a person's first time to do the job and you are laying on your bsck on the garage floor (not standing under a raised vehicle). It's a doable installation in a couple of hours under those circumstances. It installs very solidly. The receiver seems to be slightly large. My Yakima 4-bike carrier seemed to fit a little bit sloppy in the Curt receiver. Other than that, it seems to work very well.
