    Foveon Sensor!

    When Sigma announced they were abandoning development on the Foveon sensor a few weeks ago I knew I had to get my hands on one of these. Such a unique camera with what is now an completely unique sensor and imaging capability. It’s quirky and you need to shoot at 100 iso but for the size and cost you end up with truly exceptional color and imaging. A lot of fun.

    Beauty from an ugly beast

    It comes as a surprise, maybe even a shock, how beautiful the colours are from this ugly beast. The camera has its limitations. Lots of them. For example, I have found AF is slow which effectively means that for best results choose only subjects not moving. And accept this isn’t an all-occasions camera. The rewards in terms of image quality will counter the limitations.

    Sigma dp quattro 2

    I thought for some reason that this lens isn’t as sharp as the Sigma dp quattro 3. And I think the grain quality isn’t as good either. Maybe it’s me but I like my 3 better.
