Yes, it was in its own padded case, but shippers tend to abuse the things they ship. Better padding would be a plus.

"Open box" items should be unused, like new. Also, the packaging was not sufficiently careful. There was very little padding, and the case (which appeared fine in the listing photos) arrived cracked in half. Again, the item is OK, but the description was not really accurate, and the packaging was not good enough.
