    Title is a bit misleading.

    Good animation and engaging story. Dealt with a tragic moment in history, but handled very well and suspect it portrayed that time period very realistically. One of those "sleeper" animes that won a few awards and may yet garner some additional positive attention. Comparable to another popular award-winning anime "The Wind Rises!" Well worth the purchase and viewing. Consider it a keeper in my collection.

    Beguiling

    It seems like a story of late 1800s - early 1900s Japan until more than ½ way through and then things pick up and you realize you are in the middle of WWII. Excellent. In the same league as Miyazaki. and Studio Ghibli. I would have given five stars except for the explosive death of a little girl and traumatic amputation of the protagonist's drawing hand and half of her arm.
