    Does not clean oxide.

    I was buying a commutator cleaner to clean off the brown copper oxide / tarnish on a welding generator that had been sitting for two decades. The box says " SEATS brushes under actual operating conditions. Stops sparking and chattering due to poor brush contact. CLEANS commutators removing all dirt smudge excessive film and brush material. Does not remove natural oxide film or glaze." It's a solid, white stone product, not the soft eraser like bar that I used to clean slot car motors with.
