    Madness in Bear Country

    Wow, found this movie both highly entertaining and highly disturbing. How any human can survive while filming themselves thirteen seasons around hungry and territorial bears is amazing. Equally amazing is Mr. Treadwell himself who becomes alarmingly stranger the longer the camera stays on him.

    Grizzly Man is a documentary about a deeply troubled individual who went way too far in identifying and joining a grizzly bear community in the Far North. Most of the footage he took over 13 summers before one of the bears killed and ate him and his girlfriend. If you want to know about the bears, and about an excessive case of identification with the bears, this is excellent background. If you're looking for entertainment or a Disneyworld view of grizzly bears go elsewhere.

    A Man Turns to Nature until Nature Turns on Him.

    Amazing story about a man who immersed himself into the world of bears and loses not only his grip on reality but also his humanity and then his life. You are gripped from the first moment as you see this young man choose to live as one with the bears. His innocence in the beginning dissolves into a form single-minded madness as he loses the ability to see outside his own narrowing world. You want to root for this man but he self-destructs before your eyes until you know the inevitable way this true story must end. Endlessly fascinating, sad, joyful and very, very real.
