These are very intense light sources that can hurt your eyes if you look directly at them. I did some research on a pro-lighting forum and found that this is a common issue, with many performers complaining to their lighting techs. Several posters recommended adding a layer of diffusing film from B&H over the LEDs to reduce the so-called "hot spotting." Haven't tried it yet myself.
