Square's acclaimed role-playing series makes its PlayStation 2 debut with Final Fantasy X. Players assume the role of Tidus, an athletic teenager who witnessed the destruction of his home city by an evil entity named Sin. While his life was spared, Tidus' contact with Sin opened a portal through time. Some 1,000 years have passed since the encounter, and Tidus now finds himself in a strange land with unfamiliar faces. As Tidus struggles to find a way back home, he will meet a variety of characters, including Yuna, a girl faced with the daunting task of defeating Sin. <br><br>Final Fantasy X features a number of new features over previous installments. Backgrounds and characters are rendered entirely in 3D, with real-time facial expressions visible on each character. When characters are surprised, for example, they will raise their eyebrows or open their mouths in astonishment. For the first time in the series, dialogue has been recorded using professional voice actors. The U.S. version features voices in English, with optional English subtitles selectable from the menu screen. <br><br>Refinements to the combat system include character-specific skills and abilities as well as the option to swap characters at any time during battle. While previous games involved playing with only three characters at a time, players can now manage a party by selecting three to fight and making substitutions as the battle wears on. This is possible through a turn-based system, allowing players to make decisions before initiating a move. As in the earlier games, players can use items, perform special attacks, cast magic, or summon powerful creatures to assist them.<br><br>A popular mainstay in the Final Fantasy series is the inclusion of mini-games. Final Fantasy X features Chocobo Riding, where players guide the bird-like chocobos through a series of training courses, and Blitzball, an underwater sporting event. Blitzball pits two teams of four players against each other as they attempt to score points by throwing a ball past the goalie. The action is primarily turn-based, where ability points determine the accuracy of passes, shots, and tackles. By competing in tournaments, players can earn experience and prizes for their characters.

    Go back. Play this game. Especially if you have never played it. The battle system makes you think about old ideas in new ways.

    I was told about this game and bought with zero expectations. It was a long start to get this game going. The story is linear and directs you to a point where...you cry because you cannot do New Game+ here. I casually gamed with intent to button mash creatures and be lazy. I started to question the story and ponder how to take down very challenging enemies. This was put together with voice actors, music, popular gameplay, Japanese lore, wrapped in familiar religious motifs and of course, a love story~

    The game is OK and nice that you can name the Aeons, but very disappointing that you can not name the characters which is far more important than naming aeons. The story line is a little cheesy in some areas but is mostly OK.

    True fun be warned it's linear.

    some people don't like it because they say it's too linear. However I find this to be one of the more enjoyable entry and I am a huge Final Fantasy fan. The story is one of the best ever crafted. Even all these years later the graphics still hold up the gameplay is still compelling and the story is still tear jerking. If you have not played it get off your ass and get this game

    Its a classic

    One of the best Final Fantasy's out there. Square really delivered on this title making its debut on PS2 exclusively with some ahead of its time graphics and a story that sill kicks every time you play. The combat system was slightly better than 8 and 9 with more focus on environmental tactics and puzzles. All in all this Game goes down as a timeless classic 10/10

    PS2 Final Fantasy X

    So for a 20 year outdated system everything is brilliant but compared to now it's from a different Era. Apparently there's a Remastered PS4 copy that I've yet to try. Everything fits with the age of the system and game so Value is subjective. Depends how much you like and desire to possess the merchandise.
