Re the DVD player itself - subtitle was turned on by default. Remote does not control subtitle, go into the Settings menu and look for it there. Also found that it automatically starts on the first item in the DVD rather than bring up the menu. Again, look in Settings for Autoplay. Turned it off and it works like regular DVD players. You have quite a lot of control using the Settings. Nice.
