    hit and miss

    Some interesting perspectives--- not sure that I agree with them all, but stimulating Most illustrations are in black and white--- not good for a paintings book Old cultural bias in favor of/overloaded emphasis on Copley and Boston. Disparaging attitude toward John Hesselius and Robert Feke. Only minor discussion on several important Virginia and Maryland artists. The Colonial Williamsburg book on Southern Artists is a much better book.
