Reviews
"It's almost as if you're sitting down with Morton over a beer as he tells his tales without getting bogged down in detail or nostalgia. Funny, exciting and very entertaining. This book is a great gift for any Shelby or racing fan." - The Virginian Pilot, "Inside Shelby American is more than just a well-written telling of Morton's early racing career. It's an incredible, no-holds-barred look into the goings-on at Shelby American. Never before have we read such an insider's guide to the Shelby American saga. Call it a must-read for anyone who loves Shelby cars and wants to hear more than what has been sanitized by PR folks." - Classic Motorsports, "In addition to being handy behind the wheel, Morton also knows his way around a computer keyboard. He knows how to put a good lap together - and a good sentence. These dual skills make Inside Shelby American an easy, enjoyable read... it's charming and self-effacing and well worth your time." - Keith Martin's Sports Car Market

Synopsis
Inside Shelby American is a firsthand account of the iconic sports car builder and racing team from John Morton, champion racer, and personal friend of Carroll Shelby., Inside Shelby American is a firsthand account of the iconic sports car builder and racing team from John Morton, champion racer, and personal friend of Carroll Shelby. In the late 1950s, a young John Morton was transfixed with sports car racing. By 1962, his dreams had led him to enrolling in the Shelby School of High Performance Driving . In a bold moment after the last class, Morton asked Carroll Shelby if he might come to work for the newly formed Shelby American. The answer was "Yes, here's a broom." Thus, ended Morton's college career and began his long racing career . Inside Shelby American is his personal account of a company overflowing with talent , from designer Pete Brock, to fabricator extraordinaire Phil Remington, to drivers like Dan Gurney, Ken Miles, Bob Bondurant, and Phil Hill. Their rides are equally captivating: AC Cobra, Mustang GT350, Ford GT, Daytona Coupe. More than just a historical account , Morton's story is intertwined with the memories of other Shelby staffers of the period, revealing through historic photography and an untold perspective the rousing story of America's most legendary racer and car builder., " A firsthand account of one of the most iconic sports car builders and racing teams of the 1960s from John Morton, champion racer, and personal friend of Carroll Shelby. Purchased 5 car Madison rail car set at auction. Received package well wrapped and in original box. Cars themselves are in excellent condition and mostly as described, although I believe they have seen some track time. That being said, seller offers returns so I'm confident seller was told these cars were new by whomever he got them from. The purchase price was excellent so when averaged with a higher than normal shipping fee it turned out to be an overall good deal.

I have ordered a couple of magazines from this company and I absolutely would buy from them again. Having said that, the shipping company (DHL) TOOK 2 MONTHS + to get it to me. This delay in no way reflects the company from who it was purchased. Great price, excellent packaging and prompt communication.

Perfect seller, perfect buying experience! Great communication, fast to ship, excellent packaging job, especially for a larger eBay book seller, shipped in cardboard sleeve that protects the book well! Thrift Books, Second.Sale, World of Books, and Half-Price Books should TAKE NOTE, those 4 companies ship in plastic bags with zero protection that almost always damage books. Item in awesome condition, super helpful seller, will definitely buy from you again! Thank you, Books From California!

  • Informative Earthy prose.

If you have an interest in cars, or racing, this book is engaging. It has a down home style, it's earthy prose, nothing fancy, but informative. I've always thought highly of Shelby and this book gives an insight into Shelby as well as other people of the era. The first couple chapters move a little slow, largely detailing Morton's youth. All and all, a good read.
