The Amazon Echo Dot (2nd Generation) is a dual-band Wi-Fi, voice-controlled device that connects to the Alexa Service to play music, make calls, send and receive messages, and control various compatible smart home devices from WeMo, Philips Hue, ecobee, and Wink. Featuring an array of seven microphones with Noise Cancellation, the smart assistant recognizes and responds in an instant to every voice command starting with the word “Alexa”. Using Bluetooth or the integrated 3.5 mm audio jack, the Amazon Echo Dot (2nd Generation) connects to speakers to play music from Prime Music, Spotify, and Radioplayer.     A key component of the Ultimate Jukebox. Just tell it what you want to hear - it finds it & plays it. Absolutely awesome fidelity through Alexa's wired audio output - Driving pro audio gear (2X JBL prx825 & JBL prx818 xlf) this signal sounds as good as any other source - including prepared tracks. Plenty of bass to keep the subwoofer busy down to 25hz. Alexa plays ANY request a user can come up with for $4 a month with Amazon Music Unlimited for Alexa. Even against loud background rock music, Alexa can descriminate your voice commands from 25 feet away. Alexa also coptols the sound system undert voice control. Alexa eWeLink skills also control power to each powered speaker, via wifi commands to inexpensive Wifi switches. The user simply states "Turn Speakers On" via by voice command ...

    Why did it take me so long?

    Well, you have to know how to talk to Alexa, but other than that, I can't think of even a few negatives. I use Alexa to listen to music, and there is almost as much of it as you could wish for just on radio stations. The price for a 2nd generation Echo Dot is not much more than lunch, and it seems to be no less advanced than the 3rd generation. I don't have much in my house that is network-controlled, so I don't know what Alexa's skills are related to that. There are many things I don't know about talking to Alexa, so I will learn as I go, and it will be an enlightening journey.
