      RainBird ARC8 Not Flexible

      The software runs every zone in sequence at each programmed start time. That is not nearly as flexible as my old RainBird controller that let me schedule a start time/day and duration for each zone individually. The user manual doesn't explain the operaton of the controller clearly, especially how to switch from one of the stored programs to another. So it is basically trial-and-error. To me, the only benefit of this controller is to be able to manage it remotely by a smartphone, so that if our municipality changes the permissible sprinkling hours while we are away from home, the system can be adjusted to comply with the new regulations from anywhare in the world (that has Internet access). I might be tempted to reinstall the old controller for general use, and install the ARC8 for ...

      The RainBird ARC8 is easy to install. However, the instruction for configuration of the app is almost none. I had to search the Internet and used both Google Gemini and MS Co-Pilot to find the information about configuring and sharing the Rainbird app among family members. PS, don't use RainBird 2.0 App. It's junk. Stick to the original Rainbird App.

      Difficult install and surprising behavior

      The only interface to this controller is via an app and a very few simplistic function buttons. I am fairly tech savvy, with an engineering degree in computer science and 25 years of application programming. That is all to say that I could not get the controller to stay registered with the application. Spent about a half hour with tech support and we finally got it going. Tech support was good and I commend them. I so not have a rain sensor attached but the unit can be set to anticipate rainfall from weather forecasts. It has surprised me by skipping a watering cycle on a forecast that failed to deliver rain. I was able to command an out of cycle run. As time goes by, and I get used to the behaviors, I may better appreciate the controller. Until then, I am a little underwhelmed by the ...
