Synopsis
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - The fifth book in Diana Gabaldon's acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series. "A grand adventure written on a canvas that probes the heart, weighs the soul and measures the human spirit across [centuries]."--CNN The year is 1771, and war is coming. Jamie Fraser's wife tells him so. Little as he wishes to, he must believe it, for hers is a gift of dreadful prophecy--a time-traveler's certain knowledge. Born in the year of Our Lord 1918, Claire Randall served England as a nurse on the battlefields of World War II, and in the aftermath of peace found fresh conflicts when she walked through a cleftstone on the Scottish Highlands and found herself an outlander, an English lady in a place where no lady should be, in a time--1743--when the only English in Scotland were the officers and men of King George's army. Now wife, mother, and surgeon, Claire is still an outlander, out of place, and out of time, but now, by choice, linked by love to her only anchor--Jamie Fraser. Her unique view of the future has brought him both danger and deliverance in the past; her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that may light his way through the perilous years ahead--or ignite a conflagration that will leave their lives in ashes., The dazzling fifth volume of Diana Gabaldon's extraordinary Outlander saga, featuring 18th-century Scotsman James Fraser and his 20th-century time-traveling wife, Claire Randall. Do not miss these Outlander stories from Diana Gabaldon.

The book I received was in great condition. I love Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. You receive an excellent history lesson through the lives of these dynamic characters through this author's meticulous research of the time. The setting is 18th century Scotland and the struggle between Scotland and England; it continues into the New World (America) and the struggle for independence there. The characters are well developed with the central characters being Scottsman Jamie Fraser and Englishwoman Claire Randall (who happens to be a time traveler from the twentieth century.) I was hooked on their story from the first page. I am not usually a fan of sci-fi or fantasy, but this story is completely realistic (aside from how Claire came to be part of this adventure). This is a 9 book collection ...

  • The Best

So far book 4 and now book 5 (the Fiery Cross) have been my favorites of the series, slowing down and re establishing the relationship between Claire & Jamie, but also allowing us to get to know Bree & Roger. I also LOVE the wild America she paints with her knowledge of history. I almost feel like I have been there. Hope it continues the feel of these two for awhile more. I have relished every word, and find myself slowing down now that there are only twenty pages left, so it won't be over.

  • Love this series

I love this series. It is so well written and such a good story. The characters grab you and keep you wanting to know what happens to them next. The books have interwoven the stories, in such a complex manner that you will be picking out threads from all books. Start with the first book "Outlander", watch the TV show and enjoy the journey.
