The hourglass had some kind of weird varnish to it but I suspect it's the fault of the manufacturer. Luckily, I had a spare hourglass from a(n unfortunately) defective set I was given to as a gift by a friend, so I just swapped hourglasses. Aside from the varnish Zas was in perfect condition.
