Only thing that could be helpful, is a simple piece of paper directing what to do with the black and red wire. Doesn't seem to be a hard thing to do for the manufacturer and could be super beneficial for the buyer. I know that it would have saved me a couple hours of googling (which still didn't answer my question) and calling a mechanic friend.
