      Good but gimmiky

The table improves upon the original design of about 30 years ago. However, it remains a tool for light to medium, home-owner type projects. I use it as a table, as a light-duty vise as well as to weigh down my garage floor :) Gimmiky: because changing configurations to adapt to different applications requires a bit of trial and error unless one has a superb memory as to 'which of the three table-top components goes where'. That is, re-positioning the boards is not intuitive. Designers could have embellished icons or pictures as quick tip-offs. To resolve the quandary, I have done the following: 1. Identified the boards as A, B, C. then, 2. Stuck labels on the side with brief tips cross-referenced to board names. A $30 labelling machine (P-Touch by Brother) was used to produce ...

      Reality check

This is definitely for the amateur that doesn't count on your projects to be of any significant amount other than dribble. If you want a good table..design and build one. Not of cheap materials and made in china. If you plan on starting something and never finishing it...this would be a great table for you. Upon further reflection. ...how can a working table for hammering on or bending or cutting on be strong enough when the metal frame is as thick as a spoon or fork? The wood is laminate. It seems to me that someone decided to take a good design from the 60's and over the years try and save any penny possible so now you have this. How many people need to store their table on a wall ? Are you serious ? Truly better to go and buy a few 2x4"s...some 4x4 posts...some nails or long ...

    • Perfect for my needs

I work in small engine repair and I needed a portable table that could grip a string trimmer while servicing and providing a working surface for tools and such. This table fits my needs although I wish the table had a stronger vice...The vice feels a little flimsy but it works and hasn't let me down yet. Overall, I love this table and would recommend it for small engine repair. I originally got this table to use as an engine stand for rebuilding...haven't used it for that purpose yet but I'm sure it can handle it.

    • My new 425 Workmate workbench

I can understand some of the reviews that I read prior to purchasing the Workmate better now. The bench is very good but the assembly instructions were hard to follow and somewhat a pain in the butt. It was hard to get the pins into the handles but I managed with the use of some other tools. The construction seems fine and when I used it I was pleased with the way it worked. It made the job that I was doing much easier than without this bench. Tell Black and Decker to rewrite the instruction manual and you will have an excellent workbench and experience on your hands.

    • It is a decent worktable, and so far very useful in holding my wooden pieces stable.

This is my second Workmate, my first was purchased over 40 years ago and is still going strong, but being used for my Makita Power Mitre saw, this is not of the same great quality as the first one but is of a decent, purpose, and being very useful in my wood working shop. The instructions are extremely poorly written when trying to assemble, and thank the Good Lord for "you tube". With the proper instructions it should have taken 20-30 minutes to assemble, but instead it came to about 2.5 hours. Incidentally the first one was already assembled when purchased, if I remember right. The only reason I only gave it 4 stars is because of the cable that operates the tabletop is made of some type of nylon plastic line, where my other, is a worm gear. I doubt seriously that the new cable will hold ...
