      Although thermostat appeared to be new, ...

      Although thermostat appeared to be new, batteries had corroded such that unit needed to be thoroughly cleaned in order to get it to work. Not obvious without removing cover, but always a good idea to check such things when selling an item with batteries. Otherwise, the unit appears to work fine.
