All of the remaining caulk had though the applicator was in the neutral position. All of the remaining caulk moved upwards and out of the applicator and filled up the cap,. I ended up having to dig gobs of caulk out of the cap with my finger and smear it on, which made a mess that I now have to remove with a razor blade. There wasn’t a way to plug the applicator itself after use so this wouldn’t happen.
