    A scary view of life on the open seas and the poor desperate men that lived on that ship!

    All of the characters in this movie are poor lonely men on a ship that went through hellish storms frequently while out on the open seas. Once in a while they would stop ashore for a short while and get drunk and have some fun, but after that it was back to the same monotonous life. The only thing that kept them from going crazy was the comradery with their rough hewn buddies. The performances of John Wayne and the other actors is very good and compelling. This movie is a bit of a downer, but after all, it is about a sad minotanous existence where danger is never far away. The ocean can always kill you with huge waves if you're time is up!
