A great solution to a copy protection problem

I like to record some of my favorite TV shows for later viewing or even saving. I prefer to do it on my computer rather than use a dedicated DVR. This is the best solution I have found. I have a HD cable box but there is no way to use the HDMI out to record anything in HiDef. So up to now I have been recording in Standard Def using the composite output from the box (red, white & yellow output). With this box, I am able to use the component output from my cable box ( red, blue & green video plus audio) and record those shows on my computer in HD. I highly recommend the Hauppauge HD PVR. Note: there is no internal hard drive in this box so you have to use a computer as your storage device.

      • Exactly what I needed

The machine was purchased to transfer old family VHS into a digital format. Hook up was easy from VHS TO HAUPPAGE and out to computer. I needed to supply cables from VHS to the HAUPPAGE but the correct cable out to computer was included. An includedDVD allowed easy upload into my computer. Once installs and with a small amount of tweaking I was up and running. The machine transfers the material to th quality of the input so don’t expect any video improvement. The software definitely does not allow for editing so a separate program or download must be employed for cutting, fading in and out, sound overlay. Etc. The software does allow you to convert into several different formats to play on different types of devices. Though I have no interest or experience in gaming there are cables ...

      • Great HD composite capture card that works with OBS.

When it comes to composite capture cards from the mid-2000s, you can't get much better than this. With the right drivers from the company website, you can get this thing working with OBS very easily. (Follow the instructions carefully) If you're looking to digitize old VHS tapes, or capture gameplay from game systems that came out before HDMI was standard, this is a great option. One thing to note is you may need to run your RCA audio to the rear audio inputs if you are using the front video input, as the front audio inputs don't seem to work in the software for some people. Video quality is great, Both HD and SD.

      • Full Featured, good quality

I bought this primarily based on a very detailed review I saw on Amazon for another product. That review claimed this Hauppauge HD PVR 1212 was the best one he has tried out of 3, and better than a professional house. I connected it easily to my VCR and began playing back a 30 year-old VHS video. The video was excellent, but the audio was horrible until I selected the correct audio source (rear jacks vs. front jacks). After that, the audio was good as well. I recorded about 10 minutes of the video, then played it back from my computer through the HDMI output to my 55" TV. Naturally, the resolution was not HD, but it was fine. Very little degradation, if any, from the original. This is my solution for digitizing my 25 years of analog videos. I'm very pleased. But I've only done ...

      • Great Product

This device does exactly what I wanted it to do - import recorded programs from my Fios DVR into my computer. It also has a scheduler program but I found it's just easier to schedule the DVR to record what I want and then when I have time I capture the program to my computer. This original 1212 model does not have HDMI but I use component video connection and the quality is great. I also read several places that Verizon somehow blocks capture via HDMI.
