The Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 is a processing workhorse that can meet the requirements of both professional and gaming computer systems. Manufactured and distributed by Intel Corporation, this quad-core CPU comes equipped with a variety of beneficial technologies that enhance performance and maintain security. The 45 nm chip was released in the second quarter of 2009 as part of the Yorkfield line of Intel processors. Professionals and gamers will find the Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 to be a customizable and efficient desktop processing solution.The Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 CPU runs at a processor base frequency of 2.66 GHz and is equipped with four cores, allowing users to multitask through the power of multi-threading processing. Data is retrieved quickly, and tasks are executed speedily via the chip’s 4 MB L2 cache. In addition, communication between each core and the motherboard components is expedited through the front-side bus (FSB), which transfers data at a rapid speed of 1333 MHz. Designed for installation into motherboards featuring an LGA775 socket, the Intel Core runs a 64-bit instruction set and employs 456 million processing die transistors. Once the processor is installed in the socket, users will run the power-on self-test (POST), which runs boot software and diagnostic tests before the operating system is initialized.With a thermal design power (TDP) of 95 W, the Quad Q8400 runs at a voltage range between 0.8500 V and 1.3625 V. To help maintain the life of the processor and prevent overheating and degradation, the chip features Intel thermal monitoring technologies that keep the temperature from exceeding the maximum of 71.4 degrees Celsius. Other Intel programs work in tandem with this feature to ensure the smooth operation of the unit. Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology intelligently allocates tasks to each core according to the relevant needs of the system, which spares users unnecessary delays resulting from core bottlenecking. In addition, Intel Wide Dynamic Execution enables each core to handle up to four instructions at any given time. For security purposes, Execute Disable Bit (EDB) is also installed to avert damage from cyber attacks that seek to exploit systems through worms and other malicious software. Finally, Intel Virtualization Technology enables businesses to execute a wide array of virtual functions that allow multiple uses on shared hardware.Gamers and professionals who want to overclock Quad Q8400 CPUs will be able to reach core speeds in excess of 3.0 GHz by tweaking the appropriate settings in the BIOS. Overclocking the CPU while using sufficient RAM and appropriate graphics hardware will give you a computer system that can easily handle complex games and resource-intensive applications. This type of CPU is capable of accommodating high levels of performance in gaming. Equipped with a number of impressive features, the Quad Q8400 has the necessary specifications to meet the increasingly high demands of professionals and gamers alike.       A great upgrade for my Dell Optiplex 755 Minitower

      My Optiplex 755 originally had an Intel Celeron 430 1.8 GHZ and running Windows XP Professional 32-Bit, 2gb of ram, and slow as can be. I put this baby in my computer, maxed it out at 8gb of ram, and I installed Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit on it. This processor added a new life to my Optiplex. For under 20 dollars, you are getting one heck of a CPU.

      Good older processor

      It's an old CPU, but if you're upgrading an older machine with a dual-core, it's a decent upgrade. Clock speed not as fast as other quad-cores, but this one is much cheaper. It dropped right in to my old Acer and worked great.

      Easy to install but PC may have to have BIOs and drivers updated to work

      The CPU was easy to install. However, my PC had to have the BIOs and Windows drivers updated to work. Beware, my Lenovo M57p was built for Windows Vista and they don't make drivers for Windows Server 2016. There are no unknown devices under Vista but there are 3 unknown PCI devices under Windows Server 2016. Doesn't seem to affect the CPU though. My PC was at 50% CPU utilization with the original Core 2 Duo. It runs at 1 to 2% CPU utilization with the new CPU. Well worth the price!

      Q8400 speedster

      I originally bought these Q8400s to replace some E6300s in some Optiplex 745 and 755 SFF units. The 745s would not boot with the Q84OOs so I went back to the E6300 (ugh). However, the Optiplex 755 loved them and made those units a respectable desk top again. For a business office that is not heavy into graphic design and/or photo renditions, this is a big dollar saver. The price was low, the install time was 20 minutes or so and voila, a cooking little computer. I have used some ~3ghz dual-core that are pretty quick, but these Q8400s really get a grip when multitasking with web hosted apps, and local apps that depend on each other. And yes, I would recommend them to anyone who wants to ad new life to an otherwise slow machine. Don't forget to bump up the RAM to at least 4 gigs and ...
