The reel itself is smooth and I can throw a wacky rig 90 feet with ease and no backlash. I had to tighten my spool tension a little more than I usually do but after that the reel was just amazing for the price and was as smooth and threw as far as my Duckett reels do. I give this reel an A+. If your looking for the most bang for your buck then this is the reel you want. A+
