    • Matilda is priceless

This is my favorite of all the Roald Dahl books. Maybe it was because I was left in the same predicament as a child as Matilda, basically having to raise myself. Or maybe it was because I love books and escape in them the way she does. Or maybe it's because she finds someone who has her best interest at heart. Or maybe it's all these reasons, plus the obvious reason, seeing an underdog triumph over adversity.

    • Roald Dahl at His Best

As the 'Smarties Award' selection is based solely on input from children, Dahl was particularly pleased when 'Matilda' won this award for the best children's book of that year. It became a best-seller and there are two movies and a musical based on the book. With Dahl's usual penchant for nasty people and determined young folk, it's lots of fun for intermediate readers.
