When youre charging, it turns blue. It stays blue even though the phone shows 100%. I can say whether it is overcharging the phone or not, but I dont like to leave anything on charge for safety and battery longevity reasons. Charge rate will depend on the charger output. When plugged into a 2 amp charger, its fast. I use mine with a .5 amp iphone charger.
