    Spyderco veteran, Byrd newbee

Byrd and Spyderco are related. Byrd Knives was established to give an affordable alternative to Spyderco knives. I've been a Spyderco fan for close to 30 years but haven't purchased a Spyderco in probably 15. I recently discovered Byrd and gave the Byrd Cara Cara 2 a try. I found the quality great and functionality in line with Spyderco's overall. The only thing that I noticed in use that there is a difference in feel in opening the blade one-handed/thumb in that Spyderco's have a perfectly round thumb hole and the Byrd a comet shaped thumbhole and Byrd is not as smooth a roll/pivot on the thumb as the Spyderco. I noticed this but it is a minor issue put alongside the over good quality and pricing of the Byrd.

  • Just like in the photos. No surprises. Got here pretty quickly. I really don't understand the New Demand by eBay to 'rate'. the item.

Just like in the photos. No surprises. Got here pretty quickly. I really don't understand the New Demand by eBay to 'rate'. the item. It's USED!! Missing the pocket clip. Has some blade tip damage. Things visible in the listing photos. What am I supposed to put?? Five stars?? That doesn't make any sense to me. But... because Less than 5 stars Might have a negative impact on the seller... Yeah.. Sure. Whatever.

  • Good but needs....

Very economical alternative to an all purpose folder like the Endura. A little heavier than the synthetic handles but durable, the pivot action needs to be broken in and the bird eye is less comfortable than the circle thumb hole in other Spyderco knives and the edges were very sharp. The Chinese quality is there but not as good as the Japanese made ones, a little work on the pivot and running a buffer wheel with a Dremel helped a lot. Very sharp and nice shaped blade out of the box.

  • A nice knife for the price

Like another reviewer said it is a quality Chinese made knife but if you’ve owned the Japanese manufactured Spydercos it falls just short of that kind of quality , but the cost reflects that so it is a good value and appears to be very durable. I’ll be carrying it and see how well it holds the edge and stands up to daily use.

  • Worth it easily.

For this price point. This is an OUTSTANDING knife. I actually appreciate the steel used more than those used in custom knives. You can achieve a wickedly sharp edge. Some stropping brings it right back to life.
