About this product

Product Information

In New Bedford, Connecticut, in the 1800s, a group of seamen board the Pequod, captained by Ahab (Gregory Peck). They know they're out to harpoon whales; what they don't realize is that Ahab once lost a leg to the magnificent white whale Moby Dick, and that he'll risk anything to get back at the animal that maimed him--including himself and every member of his crew. John Huston's adaptation of Melville's symbolic and allegorical masterpiece about one man's obsession with battling nature's most powerful creature makes beautiful use of Technicolor in bringing one of literature's most beloved works to vivid life. Ray Bradbury wrote the screenplay for this first-rate adaptation of Herman Melville's 1851 novel.

    STICK WITH THE CLASSICS

I'll always believe that this version of Moby Dick is the best of all . Gregory Peck is the perfect choice for Captain Ahab, and helps to make the movie so stunning. I can still remember being drawn into the adventure through raging sea, dedicated hearty sailors, magnificent human-like monster whale, and the feelings of outrage and pity at the treatment of this creature, and the sadness of knowing how triumphant I felt when the whale got his justice. Deep, and dark, but magnificent! Best features: no nudity, foul language, or pornography. Sandra Hill

  • They don't make many like this one anymore.

Good copy of one of Gregory Peck's greatest roles. Loaded with great supporting actors. Period piece. Its a doozie! Quick shipment. No problems. Item as described. No complaints. Got just what I wanted.

  • Ahab and Moby Dick

very demanding novel; to read, it's written in a vernacular old english, a lot of chapters just explaining all the details of WHALING of those days. The last three chapters of the novel are about the chase of Moby Dick, and the tragedy that ensues. 580 pages book, 136 chapters . I will read it again

  • A true classic. The book dragged, not the movie.

My wife was plodding through the book and had never seen this movie. I bought it for her and she loved it. Not sure she'll finish the book though.
