    Condition was brand new as promised at a good price and fast delivery. Unfortunately, the brushed cracked right at the holes that were put trough them to allow for the wire/clip that is used during the alternator assembly to hold the brushes back. Once I released the wire/clip to allow the brushes to contact the stator (?) rings, the brushes broke right at the location of the holes. It's been a while since I have worked on a motor of alt, but I have never seen holes like these put in brushed.

    They started putting the holes in the brushes in the 1980's when they came out with the 12SI. This was so they could use longer brushes in the same brush holder. If you don't like the holes, just grind them down past the hole and they will be the same length as the old type 10SI brush. The brushes were broken because you turned the rotor before you pulled the pin out. the rotor caught the pin and broke them. you're just luck it didn't break the brush holder.
