Over The Air TV Time Shift

These older HDD recorders really do the job unless you are a real antenna head and need more than 160Gb of storage. The editing is a little tacky and the buttons are somewhat difficult to navigate to do what you want to do. But for something that is maybe 7 years old in technology is still a good buy. Picture playback is very good. Seems like a well thought out machine not sure how an upgrade would work out but the 160Gb HD seems very adequate. The DVD part is a little slow but works well.

      Be Aware!

Although it still works very well, but it's a very old model, so it can only record on a single layer DVD R or DVD RW. Will not work for double layer. However, it's still a rare, popular product in North America, just because so far we can't find anything better than this one. One more thing: if the HDD of your model has been upgraded to higher level than 160 Gb, then it may collapse sooner or later, and there's no way to repair it anymore.

    • Philip 3576H HDD/DVD recorder

Front AV input, rear AV input, S-Video input, Component, Composite, S -Video outputs, digital tuner, HDD, dvd-r recorder, came with original remote control. Working beautifully. Perfect for everyday use including 18 timers. Dependable.

    • Philips DVR is the best.

Much easier to use than others I have dealt with. I used this DVR for years after buying it new and I finally wore it out. The only complaint I have about it is that the HDMI output tends to be a little dark for some reason.

    • Good DVD recorder, HDD makes it versitile

I'm not really sure if I have the problems corrected, but the "For Parts/Not Working" machine, after I entered a few setup items now seems at least partially functional. These were fine recorders, but the remote is an absolute requirement since Philips put very few controls on the front panel. Setting the clock is important, to keep it from trying to run "auto clock set" by searching for the analog TV station with the time information, which hasn't been possible for about ten years. Now, I think it is easy to use, but I've had the later Magnavox recorder for about a dozen years, and operation is similar. But the Philips does not work with the Magnavox remote control. While I wouldn't describe the design as being physically robust, it is certainly adequate for home use, with a little ...
