    "Where's Bonnie Scotland?"

    Wonderful collection of Laurel and Hardy sound shorts and features from the Hal Roach years. For some legal reason, I suspect, the 1935 feature "Bonnie Scotland" was not included. It would have been nice if they had done a few more commentaries on the films. The sound and picture quality is very good. All in all it's a great collection...

    Almost good, but technically flawed

    Many of the shorts in this collection are significantly cropped, to the point that actual content is missing (for example, almost entire line of sign in opening of "Towed in a Hole" is cropped). What this means practically is that you aren't enjoying them as they were originally intended. Unfortunately the only other collection I know of that doesn't do this is the bigger, more expensive UK collection released a few years ago.

    The best of their best.

    These films have been made from the original 35mm masters from the Hal Roach Studios, and the quality is gorgeous. The quantity and selection of titles are outstanding as well. The box that the DVDs come in is full of fun information about each film, and is a real keepsake unto itself. None of the tired public domain titles are included in the set. These are the hard to find titles, including many of their features, foreign versions in Spanish, and alternate-extended versions. Fantastic.
