    180/3.4 Apo-Telyt R Review

    Excellent optic for digital cameras as it completely suppresses secondary color from CA across the frame especially important when shooting IR requiring color correction beyond 600 nm. Of course it's also one of the sharpest 180s I've used for normal color photography too. Only drawback is "wrong way" focus and aperture direction with Nikon mount conversion and stop down metering.

    Incredibly sharp, no chromatic aberration

    This was the first Apo lens made by Leica. Sharpness (resolution and contrast) are incredibly good from the full aperture up, diffraction is already visible at f/5.6, sharpness being so high! There is no chromatic aberration, unlike practically all 180-200mm lenses of the last century. The later version takes E60 filters, the older E59 filters, impossible to find. If you use filters, get the later versions. The minimum distance, 2.5m, is sometimes frustrating - but I got excellent results using a 0.5 diopter close-up.

    Leica's Best.

    This lens has no equal in the 180mm range however one suggestion is offered to potential buyers: Insure that your lens does in fact focus at infinity settings. Otherwise the lens needs an adjustment prior to you buying it. This is not a bad test for any Leica lens prior to purchase. The images are crystal clear and the colors are excellent. There is no chromatic aberration and at F/4.8 to 6.8, the lens has no equal that I know of.

    Amazing for the price

    This APO lens is amazingly good for the price. At just half a stop slower than the Leica APO Elmarit 180mm F2.8, it is only a quarter of the price. Edwin Puts has these as almost comparable from f4. It's also 30% lighter, an amazing lens.
