This item uses much lighter gauge metal as would be expected but still has the unique functionality that made the original so good. The original was built like a tank. This new one pales in comparison in quality of construction and is harder to use and more difficult to get a grab on lids depending on the diameter. Disappointing as that is, the concept still prevails making this a very good tool for opening jar lids.
