      Had to modify for a smaller pipe, but I think it will work ok!

      My shower trap must have sprung a leak (after 70 years) and let gases come into the shower in my infrequently used basement shower. Since it would be very difficult and expensive to repair, I tried this 2" drain seal. But when I tried to install it, it wouldn't fit - my cast iron drain pipe was actually 1 7/8" diameter. I was about to send it back but then discovered that it had a hard plastic insert with the soft rubber exterior valve piece. I separated them and just used the soft rubber piece which I could fit into the drain pipe. It appears to be working ok! I made sure the two "lips" of the valve were smoothly closed to block gases and ran the shower to make sure the flow was unimpeded. Time will tell, but I think it will do the job and save me a very expensive repair!
