Reviews
"...this impressively scholarly endeavor not only intends to inform us of the pilosophical landscape of theologies of the Christian east, but would lead us to learn from their practice by undertaking comparative explorations, exemplified by the exchange he sets up between Aquinas and Palamas." Nova Et Vetera, David B. Burrell, "One of the central virtues of this book, which deserves to be called a tour de force, is that it builds bridges without employing rhetorical gimmicks. The gulfs between Eastern and Western Christianity, philosophy and theology, and ancient philosophy broadly and narrowly conceived all here come under attack...Beginning with the ancient concept of energeia, Bradshaw is able to cast light on a plethora of deeply divisive issues. Scholars of ancient philosophy primarily or exclusively devoted to the 4th century B.C.E. are hereby invited to a little horizon expansion." Lloyd P. Gerson, University of Toronto, "...this impressively scholarly endeavor not only intends to inform us of the philosophical landscape of theologies of the Christian east, but would lead us to learn from their practice by undertaking comparative explorations, exemplified by the exchange he sets up between Aquinas and Palamas." Nova Et Vetera, David B. Burrell, "The study is a learned and original undertaking, presents many valuable insights, and is a fairly complete history of the career of the term energeia." -L.J. Elders, Institute of Philosophy and Theology Rolduc Kerktrade, The Netherlands, 'Bradshaw's text admirably exposes a key philosophical divergence that rests at the heart of the East West schism. ... the text is a successful blend and extension of dissertation and supplemental research. ... his argument has great merit. Bradshaw succeeds in creating an important text that illuminates the shared foundations of eastern and western philosophy and theology, and should be taken seriously for its validation of a tradition that values the ontological as much as the epistemological.'British Journal for the History of Philosophy, 'Bradshaw's text admirably exposes a key philosophical divergence that rests at the heart of the East West schism. … the text is a successful blend and extension of dissertation and supplemental research. … his argument has great merit. I bought it for my mum's birthday and she loves it. It has good information and images explaining things in excellent detail. It arrived well packaged and in new condition as advertised. Simplybestprices was the cheapest I found on the internet, so I went with them. The only negative was with the shipping, not the product. I ordered in Dec 2024 and it took many weeks before getting shipping details and then the delivery date kept changing and moving later. It eventuallly arrived early Feb.
