    Synopsis
The Shelters of Stone opens as Ayla and Jondalar, along with their animal friends, Wolf, Whinney, and Racer, complete their epic journey across Europe and are greeted by Jondalar's people: the Zelandonii. The people of the Ninth Cave of the Zelandonii fascinate Ayla. Their clothes, customs, artifacts, even their homes--formed in great cliffs of vertical limestone--are a source of wonder to her. And in the woman Zelandoni, the spiritual leader of the Ninth Cave (and the one who initiated Jondalar into the Gift of Pleasure), she meets a fellow healer with whom to share her knowledge and skills. But as Ayla and Jondalar prepare for the formal mating at the Summer Meeting, there are difficulties. Not all the Zelandonii are welcoming. Some fear Ayla's unfamiliar ways and abhor her relationship with those they call flatheads and she calls Clan. Some even oppose her mating with Jondalar, and make their displeasure known. Ayla has to call on all her skills, intelligence, knowledge, and instincts to find her way in this complicated society, to prepare for the birth of her child, and to decide whether she will accept new challenges and play a significant role in the destiny of the Zelandonii. Jean Auel is at her very best in this superbly textured creation of a prehistoric society. The Shelters of Stone is a sweeping story of love and danger, with all the wonderful detail--based on meticulous research-- that makes her novels unique. It is a triumphant continuation of the Earth's Children® saga that began with The Clan of the Cave Bear . And it includes an amazing rhythmic poem that describes the birth of Earth's Children and plays its own role in the narrative of The Shelters of Stone ., The Shelters of Stone opens as Ayla and Jondalar, along with their animal friends, Wolf, Whinney, and Racer, complete their epic journey across Europe and are greeted by Jondalar's people: the Zelandonii. Zoom books shipped in a plastic bag, but doubled the bag. I was relieved to see the interior bag, as the exterior bag was rubbed, stretched, had multiple holes. Books arrived okay, but I wish all the book sellers would offer a buyer the option of paying more for cardboard to protect the books, especially the corners. Many used books are vintage, and it's a shame to dent their corners in shipping. Books were as listed and a good value, and correct items sent. GOOD SELLER.

The book that I ordered was unfortunately damaged in transit (it looked like a heavy box had been dropped on it corner-first, digging a deep gouge out of the cover and through several pages). When I contacted the seller about it, they went above and beyond, immediately refunding the cost of the item. I was pleasantly surprised by their kindness, and would order from them again in future (though hopefully they'll use sturdier packaging next time!)

Purchased this as part of a multi-book sale. I paid a fair price. Book arrived in the condition as a described. Basic shipping wrapping of double plastic bag around items. Took slightly longer to arrive due to being located on the other side of the United States from me. I'm happy with this purchase. Thank you.

    • ...another great book by Jean M Auel...great series sequel...

....I have heard a few complaints to the books after The Mammoth Hunters in the Clan of the Cave Bear Series .... but I have read all 6 and think they are wonderful ....The Shelters of Stone bring Jondular and Ayla home to his People and therefore is a fitting sequel after The Plains of Passage .... the 6th and final book made the pair a little 'too' perfect .... but it was the writer's right to have license with her characters .... I personally wasn't crazy over the mating ritual triangle and Jondular's jealousy over Laramar and the resultant violence and reparations .... but it was acceptable and therein brought about a conclusion to the series .... a few things were left unresolved .... but so does life .... Thanks Jean M Auel .... 2 Thumbs up :)
