About this product

Product Information

If compact dimensions and light weight are more important to you than high speed, then this classic universal lens is exactly right for you. The lens barrel can be collapsed into the camera body, making your LEICA M6 TTL extra slim and handy. The utilization of optical glasses with high indices of refraction and a new optical computation produce an outstanding overall performance.

Lightning fast shipping! Received in Canada within a few days. Description and images provided are very accurate. Zero issues with the lens (internal/rear elements are in perfect state). Came in perfect shape with really good packaging. Thank you for providing such a high quality service! I'll definitely be buying from M&K again.

  • One of Leitz's best lenses, ever

The "modern" (Leica M-mount) Elmar 50 mm f2.8 collapsible lens (chrome or black) is one of Leitz's best efforts. Sharp, but not "too" sharp, with good contrast & color rendition it has its own unique "look & feel". The Summicron 50's may be "better" at this focal length, but the Elmar-M can hold its own and is compact - a small case for a "mirrorless" camera holds it with room for 1-2 rolls of film. Out of production now, prices are down but this lens holds its true value - pictures!

  • Compact and crisp

This is a sharp and light lens that delivers a high-quality image. The sharpness starts wide open at f2.8 and continues through the apertures. Flare resistance is also extremely high, with deep purple lens coatings. Bokeh is very pleasing. The focus action is light and positive as is the aperture selection ring at the front. When collapsed, the lens makes a very compact package out of a Leica M or compatible camera.

  • A Nice Retro Leica-M Lens

The 50mm Elmar-M f/2.8 is a discontinued (2007) but classic Leica lens. I've been searching for one in pristine condition with box and all accessories. I especially was pleased to read an honest description and to receive a lens that lived up to it. Before buying, I checked with Leica Technical Support: the collapsing barrel poses no risk to the sensors on my modern Leica bodies. I've tested the lens over 2-3wks on my M10-R and M10M (Monochrom) bodies. I am yet to try it on my SL-2. The images are as expected for the lens. It's not so much about sharp as it is about quality. The "Leica look" is there. Contrast is good, and images are crisp. I bought this lens to use primarily on my M10-D -- the modern Leica body that does not have an LCD screen on the back. Rather, it looks ...

  • This is a great lens when used in good available light. The modern black and the collapsible Elmar are great. If you need a faster lens, use Summicron

  • Accurate and timeless

A nice lens in the classic Tessar design. The mechanics is awesome. Glass is clear. It's not up to todays standards, but renders scenes in a more classical way, with low contrast and sharpness at the edges in a very nice way. Sharpness in the senter is great. Used for portrait this lens is exelent. Not so for landscapes.
