    Does not fit cars with Carter W-1 carburetor, due to space restrictions between carb inlet and metering rod cover.

    The vehicle for which this item was listed and purchased uses a Carter W-1 carb. The Carter W-1 has a sheet metal cover over the metering rod and accelerator pump linkage, very near the throat of the carburetor and just a bit taller. There is a very narrow space between the cover and carb inlet. Because this air cleaner was made for a slightly larger carb, it includes a plastic ring to adapt it to the smaller W-1 inlet - but the gap on the W-1 is too narrow for the spacer, clamp, and air cleaner flange. Based on the carb throat dimensions only, I can understand why this air cleaner would be listed for my car (1947 Chevy Fleetmaster), but in practice, it does not fit. I am making an adapter that will allow using the air cleaner, because I do not expect to find another type that will ...
