    Intel DX79SR Motherboard

    I've owned an Intel DX79SR since it was released in 2011. I especially liked it because of its capability to run a zeon chip, which is still running. My system has 64 GB ram. By todays standards, it is aging out, so paying more than $125 is probably not a great idea unless you intend to stay with it for more than 5 years. Since Intel no longer provides support for the board, think about moving to at least a DDR4 board. The board is quite stable. The type of ram, speed and chip you have on the board can improve gaming but it is not really designed for gaming.

    Good board but one critical flaw.

    For a Sandy Bridge E part this is a good board. Was able to get 4.8 Ghz with a decent voltage on a 3960X. Do not buy this board if you want to use an Ivy Bridge part. Intel stopped supporting their motherboards and never updated this one for IB-E, even though every other MB manufacturer did. Also if you do a significant overclock, you really need to make sure you cool the VRM heatsinks. Without active cooling they were approaching 100 C.

    A great product in its category

    Nothing to complain about here. The package was a little damaged upon arrival, but that's the post carrier's fault. The product itself handles very well with my i7-3930k , 4x4GB RAM and a GTX970. The onboard chipset cooling is efficient and the EFI/BIOS is easy to use. It starts up with normal-fast speed and has great performance otherwise. Everything works as advertised. As a neat bonus, the package contained a mouse mat with the intel skull and a WiFi/BT module and some intel extreme stickers (may not always be included). All in all, the best x79 motherboard i have ever had for this price.
