  • Outstanding introduction to astronomy

Combines a wide range of physics topics and history to explain the current state of astronomy, what we know and why we believe we know it. A lot of pictures, which are mostly on the same pages as the text, and actual math (though most is fairly simple algebra, trig, and geometry). Written in a very accessible style. Lots of problems at the end of each chapter, so you can pick-and-choose.
