Home Roasting Wonder
We have always loved our coffee. Years ago, we started grinding the beans at home instead of buying coffee already ground. That improved our experience somewhat. Then, a commercial roaster in Salt Lake City told us about home counter-top roasters that were available. There were plenty to choose from. Everything from 3 oz. roasters to 5 lb. barbecue rotisserie roasters. We settled on the Nesco because it was not only automatic, but it also had a cool down cycle and catalytic converter to deal with the smoke smell of roasting. We were not disappointed. This unit roasts enough coffee at one time for two days of coffee for both of us. Because the curing process continues for about a day after the actual roast, don't expect great coffee the same day as you roast. Also, don't close up or put a ... We have always loved our coffee. Because the curing process continues for about a day after the actual roast, don't expect great coffee the same day as you roast. Also, don't close up or put a lid on the beans just roasted. They need to 'breathe' for a day before brewing. That said, the options of bean load and roasting time means we can achieve the perfect roast for our taste every time. It takes up less than a square foot of counter-top space and they run efficiently for years. Even when one unit that failed after five months, the company gave us a full refund!!! We immediately bought another and expect to have great tasting fresh roasted coffee for years. In the end, the Nesco roaster is a gem of a product for anyone wanting the best tasting coffee yet.

Wonderful appliance for roasting your own coffee beans. It works well and should last for many years with careful use. It has a wide range of roasting degrees - from light to dark - and it is easy to adjust the roast by adjusting the quantity of beans and the time they are roasting. Perfect for roasting beans for super good fresh espresso. The beans smell like home-baked bread when finished. You MUST wait two or three days before pulling a shot, because the beans MUST to cure and mature for a few days before they make good coffee. 72 hours is a good average and it is worth the wait. I buy green beans for less than half the cost of commercially roasted beans, and who knows how fresh those are by the time you get them home. Great fun and easy to use. Holds about a cup of green beans which plump up during roasting to about 1.5 cups. Start it at 30 minutes and watch it for two minutes. At 28 minutes on the timer hit the "up arrow" two times so it goes back to 32 minutes. That gives you a 27 minute roast and 5 minutes of cooling. I've tried that with three different types of beans with good results. A hearty, tasty cup of coffee. There is a catalytic converter that "eats" all the smoke associated with roasting. You'll have an aroma of roasted coffee to deal with but no smoke. I do it in the basement. Cleaning after each use is a good idea and while a bit "picky" isn't that hard, just takes a bit of patience. Given that I've tried roasting with a skillet on the stove ( a really, really bad idea...), and in a hot air popcorn ...
