      A new part for an old bike and she's good to go again.

      Shimano started making 8 speeds hubs in 1998, and with time and miles these are now wearing out. However, this is not a difficult thing to replace, so we don't have to buy a new wheel. My two peaces of advice are: remove the free hud and look at the pattern on the bottom, and them match this to the replacement part ( or take it with you to the bike shop so they can match it with the correct part). When the new free hud is installed, use fresh grease and new ball bearings when reassembling the hud. Parts from this time wear well made and will still deliver on many miles of good riding. There's the added bonus of the good feeling of riding a bike you know has been well cared for, because you did it.
