Judging from how tight I need to get the lids in order to keep them from weeping, I decided aluminum was the way to go. I needed to shave a small amount from my Korean War era spout to get a good fit-probably didnt take off 1/64th of an inch at most. My cans’ lids have a metal tether which get in the way, easy to remove as they are “spring mounted” to the can, pull the tether slightl to release.
