With a li-ion, the device must measure the charge and cut it off when fully charged (led turns green) or the battery would blow up. Previous NiMH models only had red led (bad cheap circuit design) and you never knew when fully charged, most likely ended up over charging NiMH and shortened their life. Li-ion is better for a stun gun. Poor design on usb port circuit board only one side of handle secures the board, tends to fall inside.
