Great RO Unit
It is not often I write a review, but after installing the APEC ROES-50 I bought, I had to write one. I know good equipment from junk; I am an RF engineer, aircraft pilot and aircraft A&P mechanic here in Tucson, so I know good equipment from junk. Unfortunately when buying mechanical things I am usually disappointed. Most things do not live up to their advertisement hype and are junk. That is not the case with the APEC RO system. I am not an RO water expert, but I spent over 10 hours researching RO water systems for my house before deciding on the ROES-50. I bought this for under the kitchen sink and to feed my refrigerator ice maker. The RO unit came with everything I would have needed for a normal house. All I had to buy extra was extra tubing to connect my icemaker. I ordered it from ... It is not often I write a review, but after installing the APEC ROES-50 I bought, I had to write one. I am not an RO water expert, but I spent over 10 hours researching RO water systems for my house before deciding on the ROES-50. I bought this for under the kitchen sink and to feed my refrigerator ice maker. The RO unit came with everything I would have needed for a normal house. All I had to buy extra was extra tubing to connect my icemaker. I ordered it from APEC online. I must say the RO filter installation book was the best set of instructions I think I have ever seen. A clear color picture of the lay out, different color tubing for everything so you cannot get mixed up (this was really nice), clear easy to follow step by step numbered instructions from start to finish. And a clear easy to find phone number you can call if you have a problem. Even the quality of the paper in the book was excellent. It was not really necessary, but I added a permeate pump to the unit to make up for my low water pressure. I could have got a RO unit with the pump installed from the factory, but I saved money by getting this one and adding the pump myself, and they are easy to add on later. After installing everything “it all worked” and worked well. The permeate pump REALLY works and speeds up water production a lot. With my low 45 PSI water pressure into the permeate pump, the faucet open and storage tank empty, my ROES-50 makes 32 oz of water every 7 minutes, that is 51 gallons a day. Now having the faucet open all day is not real life use, but you “could” make 51 gallons a day if you needed to. My old COSCO RO unit only made about 10 gallons a day and dumped waste water 24/7. This new APES unit shuts off when the pressure tells it the tank is full. You can test this by turning the tank off (to speed up the test) and watching the waste water shut off after 30 seconds. The RO tank has a shut off valve on it so this can be done easily. And THAT was a nice touch my old RO filter did not have a shut off on the tank. If you have the permeate pump on yours you can turn the tank valve off, put the waste tube into a bucket so you can watch it, open the faucet and watch the RO water come out and watch the waste water pulse on and off into the bucket as the pump does its pumping. Then you can turn the RO faucet off and watch the waste water stop in 30 seconds. It is easy to test this way and see the pump work, and see the shut off valve shut the water supply off and see the waste water stop coming out when it thinks it is full. For an old MO boy that had to “see it to believe it”, this convinced me it all was working great. I highly recommend AEPC if you want a RO water system for the house. And, I highly recommend getting a Permeate pump if you have less than 50 pounds of water pressure, or want to increase the efficiency of your system. David F Branson Tucson, AZ

Room for improvement! For the sink deck faucet, the directions say faucet washer to installed bevel up. BUT, on a stainless steel sink, I found it would not seal properly to the sink deck. I also confirmed with Apec that you have to turn the washer upside down which will not allow the faucet to center. IMO, this may allow water by to the cabinet below ( water damage and mold potential). Not sure if the directions or design needs to be corrected but one of them should. The push/ pull hose fittings do not have a safety clip to insure they will not accidentally release as other manufactures have for the same design fitting. This might be fine if you can keep the hose perfectly centered and perpendicular after installation but that may not be real life. Things will have off angle pressures as ... Room for improvement! Things will have off angle pressures as hose are crunched into a small place, hoses hang and other things cause the hoses to tilt up, down or sideways. I believe they could do a better job on the carbon filters for very little extra money ( less than $5 is my guess). They have 2 of the 10 um/micron carbon filters ( stage 2 and 3 ). I replaced the second 10um carbon filter (stage 3) with a .5um coconut carbon block USA made filter which should give superior toxic chemical and element filtration and it was not expensive retail cost. Note this .5 is one half micron compared to their 10 micron carbon filter. The last issue that I ran into was my last R/Os from another company (s) had a reducer from a standard 1/4 '' MIP thread to a 1/8 hose fitting for these hoses. This kit did not provide such a reducer which is important if you have polybutal or maybe anything other that a cpvc standard valve. I should also mention on the push / pull hose fittings, one was already on its way out from the factory installation ( several are installed by the factory near the check valve and auto shut off ). I suspect that potential failure may have been avoided with the very cheap, plastic clips to lock the fitting as other company(s) use. I gave this feedback to the Apec and they didn't seem to take the feedback as constructive so I am providing it here. I got around the deck faucet problem by getting a thin rubber washer that allowed the faucet to be centered in the sink deck hole and then used their washer upside down ( contrary to their installation book but correct from their email sent to me by Apec). I also stripped my previous r/o for the clips to keep their fittings from letting the hose back out when it left center due to being crammed under a sink, weight of things pressed against and hoses forced to make bends that put pressure on the fittings. I found a twin pack of the USA made .5 micron coconut carbon block filters on Ebay and I am saving the potential lesser quality 10 um carbon filter for a pre carbon filter ( stage 2) to this .5 micron filter that I used for stage 3. I hope this helps us get a safer and better filtering product.

Easy installation, water tastes great.
I liked it so much I bought a second one for the house. It fit easily under the sink, was easy to hook up, instructions were clear. All the parts I needed were included. I left all the hookup lines long so I can pull the filter unit out enough to change filters someday. Water tastes good, it did remove the chlorine taste. You can buy an inexpensive kit to run a second line to your refer water dispenser. Makes for great coffee in the morning.I liked it so much I bought a second one for the house. It fit easily under the sink, was easy to hook up, instructions were clear. All the parts I needed were included. I left all the hookup lines long so I can pull the filter unit out enough to change filters someday. Water tastes good, it did remove the chlorine taste. The water tastes good. It is fully operational once installed and leaks taken care of sufficiently. It is affordable.Does what it says it does. I hope I can get more than 10 years out of the product and I hope if something breaks I can find the replacement item. I could not do that with my whirlpool. But in its defense it did last over 10 years with not problems except for the high cost of filters which needed to be changed every 6 mos or so. This item has a better shelf life on filters.
