The material is hard rubber with the exception of the sole which is soft rubber. I ordered them for my wife who wears size 7 so I ordered the small size. The band across the top is much to big but otherwise the size is ok. It's not worth the hassle to send them back and I would not recommend them based on the description and the size of the top strap.
