If you're ready to graduate from the boy-meets-girl league of screenwriting, meet John Truby . . . [His lessons draw] epiphanies that make you see the contours of your psyche as sharply as your script., "Truby attempts to inform the entire story, addressing plot, character, tone, symbolism, and dialog. The key here is to grow a script organically rather than force the story into preexisting mechanics . . . Highly recommended." -- Library Journal "A comprehensive guide to writing stories of all kinds, Truby's tome is invaluable to any writer looking to put an idea to paper." -- Booklist " The Anatomy Of Story is concrete and practical without resorting to simplistic 'Three Act Structure' screenwriting clichs. It will be an indispensable guide to writing your first great script. Then, the perfect survival manual to help you negotiate the often confusing, contradictory and cutthroat world of professional screenwriting." -- Larry Wilson, co-writer /co-producer of BEETLEJUICE and co-writer of THE ADDAMS FAMILY "A veritable bible for screenwriters." -- Backstage "If you're ready to graduate from the boy-meets-girl league of screenwriting, meet John Truby . . . Wonderful seller!! Packaged and labeled the item for shipment within hours of purchasing. I was contacted when the receipt would not print out but notified that the shipping label did print and the item would be on its way quickly. The book was in a bubble envelope, in another envelope and label not to be bent! It came perfectly intact. I have not read it yet thus no item rating.

    Better Than Expected

I must say my first exposure to John Truby was on YouTube videos and I didn't take to it. Of course, one could gleen some practical screenplay knowledge from his approach, but at the time he also seemed a bit negative and unnecessarily complex. Years later when I'd read everything else... I bought this book. It's a gem. I learned so much from this book. It definitely had me looking at screenwriting from many new angles which translate to nothing less than making my writing better. Much better. It's really that simple.

  • A great quide with lots of extras!

Better than just a screenplay act structure book. It tells you what is needed and when, regardless of your story. And it tells you how to make that story organic and hence unique unto yourself.

  • Great Book on Writing

Great read on how to construct story and character for screenwriters - but the tools presented in the book can be applied to any form of fictional writing - which makes this stand out to me. I’d highly recommend this to anyone interested in writing fiction.
