Reviews
"Boorstins achievement is to compel us to see again, ranged in order, the whole mass of attitudes and mechanisms that arise from American difference, and to display his material so abundantly and ingeniously that we see aspects of the nations' past as if for the first time." --Marcus Cunliffe, Book Week "This is the history of a nation 'beginning again and again, under men's very eyes. I can only repeat that this is a fine book--controversial certainly, but a courageous, learned and most exciting work." --George Dangerfield, The New York Times Book Review "This exceptionally good book . . .  abounds in concrete, entertaining details, and in bright, original ideas about those fascinating people, us." -- The New Yorker, "Boorstins achievement is to compel us to see again, ranged in order, the whole mass of attitudes and mechanisms that arise from American difference, and to display his material so abundantly and ingeniously that we see aspects of the nations' past as if for the first time." -- Marcus Cunliffe, Book Week "This is the history of a nation 'beginning again and again, under men's very eyes. I had a positive experience with this seller. I did receive an incorrect item in my package, but when I reached out to the seller about the problem, they responded in a timely manner and resolved the issue. Items were packaged in a bag but arrived in good condition as described. I am very happy with the condition of the books I received. Great value. I have already placed additional orders with this seller. Thank you!

I must say from the very beginning of this transaction that everything went smooth. The seller gave me a good quality product for a great price that was brand new and appeared to be better than what was pictured. I plan on purchasing more products in the near future from this seller. The product was shipped and packaged with care and love. Magnificent communication and all of what I said makes this seller a great asset to the eBay community as well as the marketplace. This is why I came back.

  • A very educational read - formation of the US character

This is a very readable history of the early US and describes and analyzes how and why the American mind-set diverged so much from European, particularly British. On the negative side for this reader: too much detail, long winded, about slavery. Otherwise, the book provides a good history of the westward expansion of the early US and how the pioneering spirit imprinted a definitive character onto the American psyche.
